Heating Circulation Pump Replacement: Building 150 G

Maintaining reliable heating systems is crucial to the efficient operation of any building. Recently, at Building 150 G, we encountered a significant issue with the heating circulation pump during a routine inspection and maintenance procedure.

Initial Assessment

Upon removal and disassembly of the existing pump — a Grundfos UPS 65-120 model — it became immediately apparent that the unit was beyond economic repair. A detailed inspection revealed several major issues:

  • Worn stator shaft at both ends.

  • Heavy scoring on both the stator and the pump body.

  • Damaged ceramic bearing seals and housings.

The extent of the wear and damage was substantial, making refurbishment neither practical nor cost-effective.

Challenges with the Existing Model

To complicate matters further, the Grundfos UPS 65-120 is an obsolete model, with limited availability of spare parts. This reinforced our decision that repair was not a viable option.

Our Solution

Given the poor condition of the existing pump and its obsolescence, we proceeded with a full replacement. A modern, efficient replacement pump was carefully selected to meet the building’s heating system requirements. The new pump has now been installed and commissioned, ensuring continued reliable heating performance for Building 150 G.
